PGR says 18, including a police officer, have been arrested in kidnapping, murder of federal agents

Bahía de Banderas, Nayarit — The federal government has announced the arrest of a total of 18 people, one of whom is a police officer, who they say are somehow involved in the capture and killing of two federal agents in February of this year.

Omar García Harfuch, head of the Criminal Investigation Agency, said that they have arrested those presumed responsible for the kidnapping and murder of agents Alfonso Hernández and Octavio Martínez who were found deceased on February 15 in Xalisco, Nayarit.

Four of the detainees are of Colombian nationality. Three women and a man identified as Mauricio Reyes “El Manotas”, who, in addition to being investigated for drug trafficking, turns out to be the cartel chief for Puerto Vallarta.

“It is known that this person would be the alleged mastermind and one of the material authors of the illegal deprivation of liberty and subsequent killing of two elements of the Criminal Investigation Agency,” explained Omar García Harfuch.

The federal government managed to capture a total of 18 involved in the murder of the officers who belonged to the Agency of Criminal Investigation. Both men were on family leave when they were kidnapped and executed February 5.

Their bodies were found 10 days later in a vehicle in the municipality of Xalisco, Nayarit.

The capture of “El Manotas” was carried out in the Las Ceibas subdivision of Bahía de Banderas, Nayarit. According to the Office of the Attorney General, sources said that during the operation headed by the AIC, Mauricio N. attacked police officials. In retaliation of that attack, Mauricio was injured and later transferred to hospital.

During the operation Luis Manuel N. alias “El Ingeniero” was also arrested and later identified as the maintenance and technical support of communications of the criminal organization. He was also found to be responsible for publishing the audiovisual material on February 10 where the two federal agents, kneeling with their captures in the background, appeared.

Also arrested are Ubaldo “N” alias “El Concho”, deputy director of Public Safety and Traffic and Carlos Rogelio “N” alias “El Pollo”, who belongs to the police of the municipality of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco.

According to the line of investigation, everything indicates that these two people also participated in the death of the two agents.

In a press conference, Omar García said Ubaldo and Carlos Rogelio allegedly provided institutional protection to the criminal organization through vehicle checks and people who were suspected of carrying out activities against the criminal group.
