PDC taxis impounded for lack of insurance, mechanical conditions

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The delegation of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (Sintra) of Solidarity carried out an operation to verify the mechanical conditions and paperwork of taxis operating in the city.

Jesús Duarte Yam of Sintra says that during their inspections, six taxi units were removed from operating for failing to carry current insurance policies.

The project was carried out in several parts of the city with a total of 45 units being inspected. Of the six removed from service, five were cars and one unit was a taxi van.

Each vehicle was impounded and fined an average of 3,650 peso.

Duarte Yam says that the operation will continue and be a permanent part of taxi inspection to ensure vehicles are regularized and meet standard mechanical conditions. It is also to ensure drivers have valid licenses.
