Passing storm sees all Oaxaca ports closed

Mixteca, Oaxaca — The State Coordination of Civil Protection of Oaxaca reported that due to the high waves being generated by the passage of tropical wave 39, all ports will be closed.

The announcement came from the Capitanía de Puerto de Bahías de Huatulco, who ordered the closure of Bahías de Huatulco to all navigation. The passing of the storm was expected to generate high waves and rough seas, resulting in the temporary closure of Puerto Ángel, Puerto Escondido and Bahías de Huatulco.

La Coordinación Estatal de Protección Civil de Oaxaca reported that the strong waves will prevent nautical tourism, coastal fishing and dredging operations in the coastal areas.

Head of Oaxaca Civil Protection, Heliodoro Díaz Escárraga, said that the Port Captaincy notified of the provisional closure due to forecasts and meteorological and oceanographic conditions in the state, which generated rainy weather with strong storms over the coast and Mixteca.

The closure is the result of a strong influx of moisture from the Pacific Ocean, due to the passage of tropical wave 39 and an area of instability with cyclonic potential south of the Guerrero coast.
