Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Passengers on a combi van from Playa del Carmen were robbed as the public transport vehicle made its way to Puerto Aventuras.
Three individuals, allegedly armed, assaulted a public transport van that was heading to Puerto Aventuras on Saturday night.
The criminals stopped the vehicle at around 9:15 p.m., and once inside, took money and belongings from about a dozen passengers and the driver.
The assailants apparently got on the combi near the Bali subdivision.
According to the witnesses, the subjects made driver stop in a weedy area along the highway where they took cell phones and purses at gunpoint, after threatening to shoot if anyone resisted or tried to confront them.
The driver of the van had to follow his route but stopped at the security filter to ask for help from the municipal police. Police implemented a search operation without managing to locate those responsible for the robbery.
