Cancun, Q.R. — Project heads say they are anticipating the opening of the new Parque Maya de Cancún to be in February, which they say, will attract approximately 45,000 visitors.
General project director Francisco Córdova Lira says the construction has been on-going for five years and is 95 percent complete. He explained that they faced numerous cumbersome issues during the construction process, but are sure doors will open February 1.
The month of January, he says, will be left to finalize trained work staff for the park so it can open to the public February. The new entertainment venue, which is located at Kilometer 16.5 of the Cancun Hotel Zone, has already generated 300 construction jobs and will employ between 110 to 150 people once open.
Córdova Lira says the inspiration for the themed park, which focuses on the legacy of the Mayan culture, came from the Museum of Mayan Culture, which is located directly in front of them. Once open, the Parque Maya de Cancún is expected to attract about 45,000 visitors in 2018, with a goal of 200,000 for the following year.
He notes the park is small with most of its attractions in the Nichupté Lagoon. However, he said that he is not interested in a high volume of people as much as he is in customer satisfaction for those visiting the park.
Parque Maya de Cancún was an investment of 110 million peso, which he figures, will be the last of his investments as an active businessman.
“I have been working for 50 years and I did not think that a park of this dimension and importance would cause me so much work, which hurt a lot. There were so many difficulties in carrying out procedures due to the profound inefficiency of various institutions,” he explained.
Parque Maya de Cancún has been constructed over an area of 5,500 square meters and is located in front of the Mayan Museum of Cancun at kilometer 16.5 of Boulevard Kukulcán in the Hotel Zone.
He adds that this is the first theme park in the Cancun Hotel Zone, one that focuses its attraction on the Mayan culture as visitors will also have access to the Mayan Museum of Cancun and the archaeological site of El Rey.
The cost for entry will be $99 USD per day.
