Pair from Yucatan caught stealing wild birds in Quintana Roo

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Two males found in possession of wild birds were jailed Wednesday. Officers from the Solidaridad Municipal Public Security and Transit Secretariat made the arrests from an inspection post in the Ejido colony of Playa del Carmen.

The car was pulled over and inspected after police noticed it was being driven at excessive speed. During their inspection, officers located 10 wild birds in the trunk of the old model taxi.

The car was painted with a Taximovil Tizimín (Yucatan) taxi logo. Five of the birds they found in the trunk were already dead. Johnny N and Antonio N, both 30 and from the state of Yucatan, were taken into police custody.

Police then requested assistance from Quintana Roo environmental authorities regarding charges against the environment for the two Yucatan men.
