Over half of Cancun, Riviera Maya hotels booked for holiday season

Cancun, Q.R. – More than half of the hotels in Cancun and the Riviera Maya have reported full reservation rates for the end of December and into the New Year.

With more than 88,000 hotel rooms in the popular winter tourist destination, over half of them are fully reserved for the upcoming holiday season. The Tourist Association for Cancun and the Riviera Maya say that the all-inclusive hotels are the ones seeing the largest reservation rates. They also say that as the holidays near, there will be a greater demand for hotels rooms.

Places such as Tulum and Holbox have also seen large reservation rates already before the end of November, while Cancun and other parts of the Riviera Maya are running out of available accommodations.

While hotel reservations arrive from wholesale and tour operators, they are also being booked directly by those traveling to the destination. Even home and villa rentals, who add another 1,000 rooms to the region, are hard to come by with approximately 10 to 15 percent availability left for the December / January holiday season. This type of preferred accommodation is particularly popular with European travelers.
