One dead, two wounded in nightclub attack

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — One man died and two were wounded after gun fire inside La Vaquita nightclub in the city’s center.

The incident occurred Saturday at 10:34 p.m. prior to the club opening. Police reports say three men entered the club and targeted three men, all of whom were shot.

After the shooting, the three assailants fled the club but were apprehended a few blocks away by the city’s Tourist Police. With support from the Navy Secretariat, the three were arrested.


Juan Rodrguez Olvera, Director General of Public Safety of the municipality of Solidaridad confirmed, “We arrested the three people, presumed responsible for these illicit acts, and found them carrying a firearm, apparently 9mm. They have been made available to the ministerial authority.”

The wounded men were taken to different hospitals in Playa del Carmen where one young man who reportedly arrived with five gun shots lost his life early Sunday morning.

Detained are a 20 and 28-year-old from Yucatán and a 27-year-old man from Veracruz.
