Officials announce construction of new Cancun military base

Cancun, Q.R. — The mayor of Cancun along with other government officials celebrate the announcement of a new military facility for the city.

The new military base will be located in the municipality of Benito Juárez that borders the continental zone of Isla Mujeres.

The construction of the new Military Police Brigade and the Military Housing Unit was announced by the Secretary of National Defense, Salvador Cienfuegos Zepeda and state governor, Carlos Joaquín González, and was celebrated with Municipal President, Remberto Estrada Barba.

The land for the new base called Arco Norte, was donated by the state government to the federation. Remberto Estrada stressed that the transfer of land and the construction of the base is proof of the commitment that all three levels of government have to gain security, which continues to be one of the main demands of the people.

“It’s about strengthening capacities to fight criminal groups, reduce crime and restore peace and security to the population,” he said.

He stressed that there are more than 3,000 troops that will be incorporated into these facilities once they are built, and that they will join forces with the existing security of the region. Many of the military members will be relocated along with their families in the brigade.
