Official says state image affected by actions of one irresponsible company

Cancun, Q.R. — The president of the Quintana Roo Democratic Revolution Party says it is regrettable that, due to one irresponsible company, the image of the state has been affected.

State PRD president, Jorge Aguilar Osorio, said it is regrettable that, because of the irresponsibility of a ferry company, the tourist image of Quintana Roo has been affected.

After announcing the discovery of devices on a boat of Barcos Caribe, the PRD leader said that it is essential to clarify the facts as well as facts surrounding the February 21 explosion at the Playa del Carmen maritime terminal.

Due to these events, the US Embassy in Mexico issued a security alert to its employees to avoid the use of the Playa del Carmen-Cozumel ferries, which, Jorge Aguilar notes, greatly affects the image of the state’s destinations.

“Beyond the possible self-attack theory, the damage that is being done to our tourist destinations due to the disorder that this company seems to have under its operations is seriously affecting the image of Quintana Roo and, as such, the United States has already issued a security alert,” said the leader of the PRD.

The possibility that these incidents are self-inflicted or self-attacks is a hypothesis that has not been ruled out by State Attorney General, Miguel Ángel Pech Cen.

Aguilar Osorio says that the Barcos Caribe company must be completely open in collaborating with authorities in the following investigations that have led to the discovery of alleged explosives.

“It generates suspicion. The alleged explosive device found on a boat of Barcos Caribe, especially because this company has been questioned on different occasions.

“It cannot continue putting the tourist destination at risk, especially in the upcoming vacation time of Holy Week,” he said.

The PDR leader noted the seriousness of the investigations being carried out by the Secretariat of the Navy in collaboration with state authorities in order to determine the reason(s) for the explosion, as well as the origin of the alleged explosive device.
