Officers dismissed after arresting Isla Mujeres demonstrator

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Four offices have been dismissed from their positions after the weekend arrest of a demonstrator. The General Directorate of Public Security and Municipal Traffic Eduardo Fouilloux said that after an investigation, the arresting officers were found guilty of use of excessive force.

According to the general director, the woman was demonstrating at the site where authorities continue to look for the skeletal remains of missing construction workers. She was removed from the site after throwing containers from three-meter high scaffolding, putting her safety and that of the workers at risk.

The young woman was accompanied by others who held a peaceful demonstration at the Isla Mujeres site where forensic personnel continue to search for bodies that are believed buried near the construction of a hotel.
