This year marks the third edition of the Festival of the Oceans organized by Delphinus with other organizations, universities, tourist promotion agencies and local governments.
The event will be held June 6 to 14 in Cancun and Playa del Carmen.
Through art, recreation, ecology and gastronomy, the festival seeks to raise awareness about the importance of conserving the oceans as well as raise awareness toward the resources they offer.
During the festival visitors can enjoy activities such as sailing, conferences, culinary shows, drawing contests, photo exhibition and concerts, among other activities.
Saturday June 6 / Sailing regatta race
Exhibition sailing regatta, along with a clinic introduction to the sport, in several categories: Optimist (children), Laser, Hobie Cat, Wind Surf, J-70. The event is free admission and will be held in Playa Langosta from 11 hrs.
Monday, June 8 / Lecture on the Ocean
Lectures by experts on various causes affecting the oceans as climate change, overfishing, invasive alien species and pollution from solid waste take their toll on the sensitive environment. Lectures will be held from 17 pm in the Auditorium Tec Milenio Cancun; admission is free upon registration at firstname.lastname@example.org .
Among the speakers are Dr. Dorian S. Houser, Director of Conservation and Biological Research National Marine Mammal Foundation; CP Alejandra Lopez Roman, Mexico’s leading organization Ocean Conservancy, and Dr. Maria del Carmen Garcia Rivas, Director of the Whale Shark Biosphere and Isla Contoy National Park.
Tuesday June 9 / Gastronomic Intercollegiate “For the Oceans”
Headquartered at the University of the Caribbean, 13-15 hrs., This contest where students present original recipes inspired by the invasive lionfish will take place. Thus it seeks to promote the consumption of this species to prevent its spread in the Mesoamerican reef.
Wednesday June 10 / Drawing contest for children and Youth video
It will be held an exhibition and prize drawings and videos submitted by participants in the Playa del Carmen Cultural Center at 16 hrs.
Thursday June 11 / Photo exhibition “Interior Vision Delphinus 2.0”
Exhibition of works of participants Photo Contest “Our dolphins” Delphinus made by partners. It will enrich the exhibition, the presence of the graphic work of photographer Erick Ruiz. It will be held in Playa del Carmen Cultural Center at 19 hrs.
Friday, June 12 / Gastronomic “For the Oceans”

Saturday June 13 / “I want my clean beach” on Isla Contoy

Sunday June 14 / Grand Concert Orchestra Experanza Azteca Inspiration Marina”
As part of the closing of the Festival, the Youth Symphony Orchestra “Esperanza Azteca” will make a special presentation at the “Plaza 28 de Julio” of Playa del Carmen at 17 hours. Admission is free.
