Cancun, Q.R. — A man was shot and killed in Cancun Wednesday as he rode his tricycle selling newspapers.
Reports say that 49-year-old Gerardo N was shot and killed in Region 103 of Cancun Tuesday. Neighbors said that for several days before the shooting they saw a vehicle with tinted windows driving through the streets.
Emergency 911 recorded the call at 8:00 a.m. that a person had been injured by firearm between 50th and 163rd streets of Region 103. The man was apparently intercepted by someone on a motorcycle who chased and shot him.
Police and medical staff arrived to confirm that the man was without vital signs. Elements of Public Security requested the intervention of the General State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE).
This was the third time Gerardo N had been a target, with the last time being two months ago when he received a gun shot to the chest but survived.
Gerardo was identified by his family who are originally from Tiziutlán, Puebla. Police lifted seven .45 caliber shell casings from the crime scene.
