New Zazil Ha development won’t effect beach access

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A change of land use in Zazil Ha will see a new housing development project built meters from the beach, but will not effect public beach access.

The Cabildo de Solidaridad approved the change of land use of the property located between the streets of Pelícanos and Albatros in the colony Zazil Ha. It will go from being mixed use commercial to high density tourist housing, confirmed the head of the General Directorate of Infrastructure Urban Development and Environment, William Conrado Alarcón.

When the announcement was made, some were concerned that another public beach access point would be off-limits to the general public, however, Mayor Cristina Torres reiterates that there is no blockade of access to the sea by the hotel project in the colony Zazil Ha.

The new project titled It Beach, will consist of 25 rooms. Construction will begin once the environmental impact statement is approved.
