Cancun, Q.R. — State Governor Carlos Joaquín said that 2017 was a good year for the tourism sector in the diversification of products which allows Quintana Roo to not depend only on holiday seasons.
In 2017, the construction of Amikoo Park was announced, a project that represents an investment of $840 million USD in Riviera Maya. Amikoo Park will feature 24 next-generation mechanical attractions, restaurants, shows and thematic parades, a museum of archaeology and Mayan anthropology, Amikoo downtown, Amikoo Resort of 1,200 rooms, parking for 5,000 cars and 30 buses.
It is estimated that the project will generate 9,000 direct and 36,000 indirect jobs and attract 4.5 million annual visitors.” This project will generate more and better opportunities for people with new jobs and the creation of businesses, in addition to intensifying tourism promotion so that there are more benefits for more families and not just for a few,” said Carlos Joaquin.
Governor Carlos Joaquín quoted that during 2017, the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya inaugurated the Woodward Riviera Maya, the first of its kind in Latin America. The hotel offers nearly 20,000 square meters of space that includes a foam pool, trampolines, parkour area, indoor skate park, the parkBoard and parkSki training team.
The governor of Quintana Roo stressed that another achievement of 2017 for tourism was the new Terminal 4 at the Cancun International Airport, which has the capacity to serve 31 million passengers.
He added that the inauguration of the beach club of Rosewood at Mayakoba tourist complex, and the renovation of the Cancun International Convention Center that opened its doors and now offers 14,200 square meters, can now host up to 5,000 people, were also great achievements.
Carlos Joaquín said that for 2018 and into 2019, the construction of nearly 18,000 more rooms is planned including the Cancun International Airport Hotel, the expansion of Iberostar hotel in the Cancun hotel zone, Mia Cancún , the St. Regis Kanai Resort & Residence in Punta Bete Xcalacoco, the Riu Costa Mujeres and the Marriott Renaissance in Puerto Cancun.
