Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A new transportation route between Playa del Carmen and the town of Chiquilá has begun operating.
The new route will see passengers driven from Playa del Carmen to Chiquilá where they can carry on to Holbox. Gaspar Osorno González, manager of the vans, says that for now they will service approximately 160 people per day, but in high season, they expect that figure to triple.
He explained that “The morning departures from Playa del Carmen to Chiquilá are at 8:00 a.m.,10:30 and again at 11:30 a.m. with afternoon departures being 3:30 p.m., 6:00 and 6:30.
“From Chiquilá to Playa del Carmen the departures are at 7:30 a.m. 8:00 and 11:30 a.m. and 2:30, 3:30 and 7:00 in the evening.”
Osorno González says that the van route was created to unite both destinations based on the tourists, adding that it will connect Riviera Maya and the heart, Playa del Carmen, with Holbox.
The vans are part of a three-union organization that includes Lázaro Cárdenas del Río, Balleneros de Chiquilá and theTaxistas del Kantunilkín.
The base is on Calle 2 between avenues 25 and 20 of Colonia Centro where visitors can also find the vans that go to Cancun, Tulum and Felipe Carrillo Puerto. The cost is 250 peso each way.
