New Starbucks in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. – A new Starbucks has opened in Playa del Carmen, this time in the community of Ejidal.

The coffeehouse company opened its new doors on June 21. Starbucks is the largest global brand coffee in the world but is second in Latin America. The largest coffee chain in Mexico is Italian Coffee Company, which continues to open new branches throughout Quintana Roo.

Starbucks has its eyes set on opening more shops around the state, in particular, they are hoping to open a store in Chetumal where they have yet to make a presence. The Ministry of Economic Development (SITE) is still in talks with representatives of Starbucks about servicing the capital city.

From 2003 to 2014, Starbucks expanded to 21,366 stores in 65 countries. More than 12,200 of those coffee shops are US-located. In 2013 alone they opened 1,599 stores. Starbucks is the largest coffeehouse company in the world ahead of UK rival Costa Coffee.

At the end of 2014, Starbucks had 443 branches in Mexico with continued expansion plans. In 2015, they plan to open another 50 cafes. Starbucks is a Seattle, Washington company.
