Akumal, Q.R. – A new resort in the municipality of Akumal in Mexico’s Riviera Maya, was inaugurated October 13 with an official opening next month.
The new 425-room hotel, Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya, was a $125 million investment that is expected to generate 800 new jobs.
The opening ceremony for the hotel included a ribbon-cutting that was overseen by state governor, Roberto Borge and Enrique de la Madrid Cordero, Federal Secretary of Tourism, who was there to represent President, Enrique Peña Nieto.
In the governor’s speech, he emphasized the confidence entrepreneurs have in the Riviera Maya as an important tourist destination for continued investments.
“Thank you for believing in this paradise that has so much energy and mysticism that has caught the attention of many people in many parts of the world. Here in Akumal and in Quintana Roo it is a paradise. We are ensuring very strict standards in local urban development and in our ecological management plan to take care to maintain green areas and have the least possible impact on nature while providing guests with high quality establishments. That is the secret of success Quintana Roo has for tourism,” he said.
Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya is part of the Secrets Resorts and is the second Secrets chain in the Riviera Maya. The hotel is set to open November 1.
