Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Several administrative matters continue to slow the construction of the new Solidarity airfield located near the town of Puerto Aventuras.
State governor Roberto Borge Angulo says that the new airport will cost around 110 million peso, 60 percent of which has already been placed as a deposit against the land. He says that the land where the airport currently sits on Avenida 15 and Calle Aviation in central Playa del Carmen has new owners, however, the state government has requested an extension on the current airport land while the relocation takes place.
He explained that as of now, the new airstrip will add an additional 60 percent more space and is still set for completion before the end of his governor term in April 2016. He says that at the end of 2015, an agreement for resources was signed with the Treasury.
“Once we have completed the administrative processes of records can we execute the resources for completion of the airfield,” he said.
The land from the old airstrip was sold to the Institute of Housing Development (Infova) who later became the Institute of State Property (IEEP).
