Cancun, Q.R. — A new hotel association is being created to better represent Spanish brands in Cancun and the Riviera Maya.
A large Spanish hotel group in Quintana Roo are creating a new hotel association parallel to the Cancun Hotel Association group. Iberia members have created the National Association of Hotel Investors (Asociación de Inversores Nacionales Hoteles) – Inverotel – which was registered with the Caribbean Business Coordinating Council in June.
The new association has 40,000 representatives across 12 large-scale hotel chains that include Riu, Iberostar, Excellens, Meliá, Bahia Principe and H10. The objective of the new body is to create an association of hotels that will directly manage their interests and increase their presence in the rapidly growing tourist area. The core of the new association is comprised of Riu, Oasis, Iberostar, Barceló and Melia group.
The newly formed Spanish association intends to better represent their Mexico interests in both Cancun and along the entire Riviera Maya tourist corridor with enhanced promotion and benefits. They have made a proposal on paper to group with hotels in Puerto Morelos. They also intend to extend their association membership into the municipality of Tulum where their hotel brand already has a large representation.
