Cancun, Q.R. — The Gran Rueda Pepsi Cancun continues to be in limbo while officials remain unable to agree on a permanent location.
The new tourist attraction, which was due to open mid-February, continues with setbacks as Cancun city officials and local business owners disagree on a permanent location for the 60-meter sightseeing wheel.
Nearing its final phases of construction, the Gran Rueda Pepsi Cancun has since been disassembled while a new location is decided. The massive structure was being built along Blvd. Kukulkan at Kilometer 9.5 of the Cancun Hotel Zone. The concern with having it there was the creation of additional traffic congestion, an issue business owners say is already a huge problem.
While investors feel the wheel is an important and necessary attraction, they also say that it’s important to ensure it is set up in the best location possible to offer a good business experience.
Other location considerations include Cancun’s Ecopark, Tajamar, Plaza La Isla, Puerto Cancun and opposite Plaza Las Americas.
On February 4, Gran Rueda Pepsi Cancun began soliciting for employees but has since stopped all posts. According to their Facebook page, the company still advertises the wheel location as Kilometer 9.5 of the Cancun Hotel Zone.
