Cancun, Q.R. — The secretary of tourism says they will enter a proposal for a new educational theme park that would be constructed between Cancun and Riviera Maya.
Marisol Vanegas Pérez, Secretariat of Tourism of Quintana Roo, says they plan to create an environmental education theme park project located between the two major regions, and that the new theme park would be a replica of the parks and museum project in Cozumel.
Like Cozumel, the project would be managed through the Institute for the Promotion of Tourism Infrastructure, in association with the private sector. Vanegas Pérez says the idea is to explore new attraction possibilities that involve both government and private funding.
The current Parks Foundation of Cozumel, which is a state agency, operates three parks and the museum. Vanegas Pérez says not only do they have large economic gains, but all the money is reverted back into scholarships through an environmental program and an educational program with the museum.
“It has been very successful and we want to replicate the foundation’s exercise,” noted Vanegas Pérez.
Vanegas Perez said that they are receiving proposals from members of financial organizations and companies who are coming to see the projects and to participate or propose projects to the state.
