New DIF facility made of sargassum bricks inaugurated in Puerto Morelos

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — A new government facility built out of sargassum bricks has been inaugurated in Puerto Morelos. Mayor Laura Fernández Piña, was part of the Thursday inauguration of the new psychology clinic of the System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF). She says the facility will be used to attend to children of violence.

During the opening, the president and the director of municipal DIF, Adriana Nava Gómez and Yamili Alvarado Crespo, respectively, were on hand as was the secretary of Social Development, Ignacio Sánchez Cordero. The group thanked local businessman Omar Vázquez Sánchez for the donation of the sargasso bricks (sargablocks), used to build the new DIF facility.

“In DIF Puerto Morelos, which is the most sensitive area of the administration, we have an extraordinary human team and we are making headway, advancing little-by-little, but at a firm pace in terms of infrastructure, to be able to serve a greater number of people,” said the mayor.

Laura Fernández, who unveiled the commemorative plaque, said that the contribution of people like Omar Vázquez from the Blue Green Mexico company will allow providing care to a greater number of people who are in vulnerable situations.

“I am very proud of the work that a local does for the benefit of the community, leaving his mark here in the municipality. The history of the sargablocks is a success story that fills us with pride. Thank you for sharing that success with the DIF family, and may this serve as an example for more entrepreneurs to join the effort of this noble institution,” she said.
