Playa del Carmen, Q.R. – The municipality of Solidarity has added a new bus route from Playa del Carmen to Tulum.
The new route will also include a new stop along the corner of 115 Avenue and Constituents to accommodate those living in the west of the city. The transport route from Playa del Carmen to Tulum will begin operating on August 15.
Jesús Pastor Martín Medin, taxi union leader for Lazaro Cardenas del Rio, says that “Many of the people working in Tulum or in hotels along the highway live in Villas del Sol and Misión de las Flores and when they have to travel to the south for work, they first have to catch a shuttle to the center.”
According to Pastor Medina, the cost will remain the same. The new route will bypass the center of the city, however there will be a preferential cost to local people and workers with credentials.
“Each colectivo will take 15 people. We know that in the beginning it will be difficult and that accommodating all the people will be a little slow, but the idea is to promote this new route so people no longer have to travel to the center to take the colectivo,” explained Martín Medin.
He said that after a city study, it was determined that there was a need for this new route as people were often late for work due to the awkward travel situation getting to Tulum.
