Playa del Carmen, Q.R. – A new development by one of the country’s largest food chains has been quashed to the surprise of many.
The large food and department store, Chedraui SA de CV, had gained permits back in 2013 for the development of a new store west of the city. The new shop, which was to be built on a parcel of 2.5 hectares of land on the corner of Arco vial, has suddenly been put up for sale.
The area was deemed ideal since it offered favorable traffic access as well as numerous new residential developments in the area.
Chedraui made the request to build its third mega-store in Playa del Carmen in November of 2012 to the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat). They were granted the building permit in January of 2013. The clearing process of the land began. The new shop was to be constructed to just over 10,000 square meters.
