Cancun, Q.R. — A new fight from Colombia to Cancun is set to begin December 1. The new route from Bogotá to Cancun will be offered by Copa Holdings.
Copa Holdings has launched a discount airline in Colombia on Wingo. The Panama City-based company said that Wingo is “designed for passengers who prefer a simple, no-frills, and reliable travel option.”
The new low-cost airline option is set to begin with 70 flights per week, mostly to Colombia’s Caribbean islands, however, they will be offering a Bogotá to Cancun route. Other international route options include Bogotá to Havana, Aruba, Punta Cana, Mexico City, Panama City and Quito.
Jesús Almaguer Salazar, director of the Cancun Oficina of Visitantes and Convenciones (OVC), says, “The entry of the new airline is good news because the market from that origin to this destination continues to increase.
This year, the number of South American markets has increased considerably, and as we have said repeatedly, is the result of negotiations.”
In a statement, Copa CEO Catalina Bretón said Wingo will operate as a separate business unit of Copa. Wingo flights to Cancun will consist of four Boeing 737-700 aircraft that accommodate 142 passengers.
“We are a different business model that wants everyone to feel pleased. Although we have introductory offers, our promise is to have low prices, meet all flights and speak openly to travelers. We are a new option for those who want more from an airline at affordable prices.”
Tickets are currently available on wingo.com for flights starting December 1, 2016.
