Navy reports medical evacuation of fisherman off coast of Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Mexican Navy personnel reported the medical evacuation of a man from Isla Mujeres waters Sunday. The man was evacuated after receiving a blow to the head.

The Secretary of the Navy reported carrying out the medical evacuation of a male on Sunday night approximately 33.5 nautical miles (62.04 kilometers) north of Isla Mujeres after receiving an emergency call from a fishing vessel.

According to their report, vessel Legitimo IX requested the medical support after one of its crew was hit in the head by a brick. The brick allegedly fell on the man’s head causing him to convulse.

The 36-year-old local fishermen was stabilized by Navy medical personnel before being transferred to hospital by ambulance.
