Navy of Mexico responds to medical emergency for Marshall Islands ship

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The Ministry of the Navy of Mexico as a National Maritime Authority and acting Coast Guard reported the medical evacuation of a male person onboard a boat from the Marshall Islands.

An emergency medical call was made to the naval command requesting support for a man aboard the container ship Uasc Bubiyan 11 nautical miles (20 kilometers) east of Cancun. The medical emergency was made for the ship’s captain who was reported suffering from vertigo.

The Naval Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station of Isla Mujeres quickly deployed a vessel with naval personnel to carry out the medical evacuation. They returned with a 53-year-old male who was moved to Puerto Juarez where he was delivered to medical personnel via a private ambulance.
