National Guard locates kilo of cocaine in backpack of Cozumel ferry passenger

Cozumel, Q.R. — A man found transporting nearly a kilo of cocaine was removed from the Cozumel ferry pier Thursday. Police arrested the man after a search revealed the drug in his backpack.

The announcement of his arrest was made in a brief news post by the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) on Thursday. Taken into custody was 34-year-old Angel D by members of the State Coordination Group for the Construction of Peace and Security in Quintana Roo, the FGE said.

Angel D, a local painter living in the Repobladores area of Cozumel, was arrested after authorities found him attempting to transport the kilo of cocaine from Cozumel to the mainland of Playa del Carmen in a backpack.

The drug was found during a random inspection by elements of the National Guard. The arrest took place at the San Miguel Pier on the island of Cozumel.
