Playa del Carmen, Q.R. – The municipality of Solidaridad will increase the number of lifeguards around popular Playa beaches as one of the busiest tourist seasons approaches.
City officials have said that based on the number of beach-goers and swimmers along Playa del Carmen beaches, an additional 18 lifeguards will hit the sand during the Easter holiday season.
Director of Civil Protection, Orlando Muñoz Gómez, explained that the beaches with the highest influx of daily swimmers are Mamitas, Playa Piñatas and the entire city center strip as well as Punta Esmeralda and Xcalacoco just north of central Playa del Carmen.
An additional 18 lifeguards from Civil Protection will be distributed along the four kilometer stretch of beach, concentrating on places with the highest number of daily swimmers. Muñoz Gómez also added that these areas will have a speedboat that will continually cover more than five kilometers of beachfront in addition to the 12 surveillance booths already installed along those areas.
