Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — An SUV that was stopped by municipal police outside Playa del Carmen ended with the arrest of more than a dozen along with the seizure of several weapons.
When the municipal police of Solidaridad received a report of an SUV traveling with weapons, they requested the help of municipal police in Tulum along with federal police assistance to intercept the vehicle.
When stopped, police searched the vehicle, finding it loaded with weapons. Those inside the SUV said they worked for a private security company called Energy Solutions of America and that the weapons belonged to the company.
The driver of the SUV, Julio César N, identified himself as the supervisor of the company but was unable to prove carrying permits for the weapons.
Police stopped the SUV in the town of Paamul. The Coahuila-plated vehicle was searched and those inside arrested and handed over to officials along with the vehicle and guns. In all, 14 people were taken into custody.
