More than 200 Cancun turtle nests relocated during Gamma

Cancun, Q.R. — More than 200 sea turtle nests were relocated from Cancun beaches before the passing of Tropical Storm Gamma Saturday. Cancun mayor Mara Lezama explained that the transfers were meant to safeguard the nests.

Lezama said “We activated the contingency plan for the relocation of sea turtle nests due to the passage of Tropical Storm Gamma,” explaining that personnel were working hard to relocate “240 white turtle nests, which represent about 25,000 eggs.”

She explained that the contingency plan for the relocation of sea turtle nests also has the purpose of verifying the movement of the tide while placing sacks around the corrals that are on the beaches of Cancun.
