Cancun, Q.R. — A package containing heroin has been confiscated at the Cancun International Airport by federal authorities.
The discovery of the package came Wednesday when it was sniffed out by one of the narcotic K-9 dogs. The dog, used for routine inspections, alerted police to a box which inside, was a metallic container that was being shipped by a parcel company via the Cancun airport.
The National Security Commission says that once Federal Police opened the container, they found a box with slippers that contained 2.5 kilograms of heroin.
According to their statement, the shipment originated from Aguscalientes and had a final destination of Tulum.
The Federal Police reported that the drug was made available to the Agent of the Public Ministry in Cancún who will follow up on the corresponding investigations.
