Tulum, Q.R. – A mobile security unit has been relocated into the community of Akumal.
The much-needed security unit was moved into the community to help with the monitoring of public spaces after numerous requests were made by locals.
The Director of Public Safety and Traffic, Gabriel Gonzalez Ornelas, said that mobile booths are part of a new crime prevention strategy that will allow the police to have presence in areas that they refer to as red lights where there is often greater criminal incidences.
He stated that in this specific case, the units were provided in response to a petition presented by citizens to the president to safeguard public order. He adds that it will also serve to protect tourists arriving in the area.
“Akumal is a tourist area that receives many visitors, both domestic and foreign, so it is very important to have security and surveillance in the area. It will also benefit the villagers for recreation and work. The mobile booth will provide confidence both to tourists as well as the locals that they will be well protected.”
In addition to this security strategy, the police will be in a better position to provide assistance and vigilance service during Easter.
