Tulum, Q.R. — With the advance payment of 300,000 peso, the municipal government of Tulum will start repairing the Punta Allen road, said Romi Dzul Caamal, municipal president of Tulum.
He says that machinery and filling material will be placed in the most affected areas along the road to Punta Allen adding that with the support of governor Carlos Joaquín González, the road will be repaired.
While most of the money will come from municipal government, he explained that since there are several businesses involved, these businessmen are also contributing a large part, as will the inhabitants of Punta Allen and the state government itself.
“We recently received a visit of Governor Carlos Joaquin Gonzalez here in the municipality of Tulum when we had the reopening of the Visitor Center of the Sian Ka’an Biosphere. He saw the road condition from the Arch to Javier Rojo Gómez and, obviously, we had already reached out to him with the issue.”
Work to repair the road will begin on Monday and continue to serve the entrepreneurs who are joining in the project. “I recognize that these businessmen are doing their share.”
He stressed that both the governor and town are working on a project that is a permanent fix and not a repair job that will require “a bandage every time it rains.”
The businessmen made the commitment to contribute 300,000 peso and the municipal government another 300,000. Both amounts will be for the purchase of material needed to properly repaid the road. The inhabitants of Punta Allen and the cooperative members, as well as those who have houses in that area, will also make their contribution.
The total repair for the road will cost 1.2 million peso and be a permanent fix.
