Riviera Maya, Mexico — The tourism board of Riviera Maya says that this year, the Grand Costa Maya will be highly promoted, offering tourists sites south of the state.
In 2018, the south of Quintana Roo will have a greater media presence through its Grand Costa Maya concept which will be promoted in fairs and social networks to increase the number of European visitors, said Darío Flota Ocampo of the Tourism Promotion Trust of the Riviera Maya and Cozumel.
The goals for 2018 will be to strengthen campaigns of the Grand Costa Maya and its destinations which include Chetumal, Bacalar and Mahahual. Fleet Ocampo said that the images of the area will be seen more in fairs and digital media as part of the promotion strategy.
“There is interest in the area, but at the same time we promote it, we will have to take care of it because the opening of the archaeological zone of Xcalak will attract more visitors, and we must be careful about the number of people who will arrive due to the fragility of the ecosystem, for example from Bacalar,” he explained.
The runway at the Chetumal airport is an important issue as it will also act as a trigger for the arrival of visitors, “so we hope that the runway will be ready soon for European tourism” said the official.
In 2017, the Tourism Promotion Trust of the Gran Costa Maya merged with the Trust of the Riviera Maya and exercised nearly 20 million in the promotion of the destination.
