Mexico strikes back as Trump continues wall talk

Mexico City, D.F. – Hundreds of thousands of Mexican people are striking back as U.S. President Donald Trump continues with promises to build a great wall between the two countries.

Reactions to the wall have generated boycotts on social media with hundreds of thousands of online users saying goodbye to many American brands that occupy a place in the Mexican market. According to TrendsMexico, #AdiósStarbucks has already exceeded 610,000 mentions.

The first-hit American brand has been Starbucks, a company with more than 400 locations in 26 states in the country, making Mexico the company’s seventh largest enterprise. Other American companies being boycotted online include KFC, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Mattel and Fisher Price among others.

The online trend is not only prompting the boycott of American products, but is also promoting the purchase of national brands of the same product or service.

The boycotts came after Donald Trump signed an executive order to begin preliminary phases of the construction of a wall along the US-Mexico border, insisting that Mexico fund his project.
