Chetumal, Q.R. — The Navy of Mexico performed an emergency rescue Monday after a fishing boat became stranded off the state coast.
The Secretary of the Navy of Mexico reported that personnel belonging to the Naval Station of Search Rescue and Maritime Surveillance of Chetumal, rescued seven people on board a boat named La Pikuss.
The rescue was launched after they received an emergency call reporting a boat, La Pikuss, with seven on board was drifting.
A Mexican Navy crew headed out to sea where they found the boat drifting approximately 28 kilometers (15 nautical miles) southeast of Chetumal. The boat and its seven crew members were participating in the Virgen de Fátima fishing tournament.
La Pikuss was towed to a Chetumal dock where medical staff from the Naval Search Station of Chetumal were waiting. All seven Mexican nationals on board La Pikuss were found to be in good health.
