Mexican navy rescues American cruise ship passenger after call for medical attention

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — An American cruise passenger was evacuated from a Carnival ship after she required immediate medical attention.

The Navy of Mexico reported the evacuation of the female passenger, saying that the woman, who was aboard the Carnival Vista cruise ship, required immediate medical attention for a heart attack.

The request for the medical evacuation occurred five nautical miles east of Isla Mujeres. The ship made the call for support to transport the 54-year-old passenger to hospital, who they said was suffering from myocardial infarction.

Members of the Mexican Navy, along with navy medical personnel, set out to rescue the American cruise ship passenger. She was transferred to the Puerto Juarez dock where a private ambulance was waiting.

She was taken to a Cancun hospital for specialized attention. There is no update as to her status.
