Travel figures show this year, 70 percent of Mexicans are traveling to national beaches to spend their summer holidays.
According to Julián Balbuena, chairman of the Board of Directors of Best Day Travel Group, travel agencies are reporting a favorable summer season with Cancun and Riviera Maya being preferred destinations for the national market. He says their figures show the highest demand being in the Mexican Caribbean, adding that numbers this summer are an increase of 22 percent over last summer.
Balbuena added that in the domestic market, preferred Mexican destinations include Cancun, Riviera Maya and then Vallarta, Acapulco and Los Cabos, in that order, adding that while these destinations make up 70 percent of travelers, 30 percent opt for international vacations.
He says that Mexicans traveling outside the country are heading to places such as Orlando, Las Vegas, New York, Chicago and South America. The preferred Latin American destinations for Mexicans, according to BestDay, are Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and Punta Cana in Dominican Republic.
Although Colombia is an emerging market and has promising potential, for BestDay it represents only five percent of reservations.
