Cancun, Q.R. — A man in a taxi has reportedly fired shots at federal police in a Cancun mall parking lot.
The assault occurred at the shopping plaza Cancún Mall in region 228 when reports say that at around 7:00 p.m., men in an Andrés Quintana Roo taxi fired at least three shots at police. Witnesses say the taxi was leaving the parking lot when it suddenly stopped and began firing.
Police requested backup as they pursued the taxi. The chase continued across several avenues in regions 235 and 234 of Cancun. Marine officials along with municipal and state police were involved in closing down streets in an attempt to find the shooter.
Eventually federal police stumbled upon an abandoned site where they arrested one male. They also found the vehicle believed used in the shooting, which turned out to be a car painted to look like a taxi.
The arrest and seizure of the car took place in region 234.
