Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Laura Beristain says that part of the old central Palacio Municipal is earmarked to become a cultural museum.
The mayor of Playa del Carmen says that in her future plans for the city, part of the Palacio Municipal will be converted into a museum to display everything that represents Playa del Carmen.
“Sometimes you think there is no story about Playa del Carmen because it is not displayed, so now we are highly motivated so that between 2019 and 2020, the Palacio Municipal will become a cultural site of everything that represents Playa del Carmen, Solidaridad with photographs and interactive material where tourists and local families can enjoy it,” she said.
Walter Puc Novelo, Secretary General of Solidaridad City Council said that displaying the history of Playa del Carmen is important and that more and more, they are working on identifying the people of Playa del Carmen that have a love for the city.
Aniceto Caamal Cocom, president of the Centro de Salvaguarda de Usos y Costumbres Mayas said that Playa del Carmen also has a Mayan legacy that can be seen in the archaeological remains left by ancestors and in the living culture that remains today, so it is important to continue working to preserve the traditions.
Raymundo Tineo Celaya of Solidaridad city council added that the city must continue promoting activities such as museums and cultural traditions so that young people have more connection and respect for the community they live in.
