Mayab passenger bus robbed after leaving Cancun

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — A passenger bus traveling between Tulum and Felipe Carrillo Puerto was robbed after four men were able to stop the bus while it was en route along the highway.

The Mayab bus, carrying 25 passengers, was boarded by three of the four men around 2:30 a.m. Sunday with assailants removing wallets, purses, phones and other items of value from passengers before fleeing.

The bus, which had left Cancun around midnight, was boarded on a highway corner near Chumpón where the subjects forced the unit to stop by placing large rocks across the road. Once the bus stopped, the four came running from their hiding places in the bush.

Three of the assailants then boarded after one of them took charge of preying open the doors, while a fourth kept watch outside. Those on the bus say the men were armed with guns and sharp weapons.

The men took only a few minutes to rob all passengers before fleeing.

The bus was able to carry on to Felipe Carrillo Puerto where the driver, Ismael Z, made a report with Vice Fiscalía de la zona centro, however, the four men had already disappeared.
