Maya Train highway projects begin south of Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A 10-kilometer section of federal highway south of Playa del Carmen has seen construction started for the Maya Train. Raúl Bermúdez Arreola of Fonatur says that this week, they have begun work along a section of highway between Sac Tun (Calica) and Paamul.

“All four lanes will be kept open, although speed will have to be reduced due to the work being done along the central median,” he said.

In a radio interview with Turquesa, he explained that the current project along those 10 kilometers consists of the construction of several columns and a viaduct that will be used by the train.

He did not give a time frame as to how long the construction will take or if there will be specific hours for construction, only that these projects are being started now that the summer holiday tourist season has ended.
