Massive tree falls on car at red light killing family

Naucalpan de Juárez, State of Mexico — Four members of a family from Naucalpan lost their lives when a tree more than 20 meters tall fell on the vehicle in which they were traveling.

The incident happened at the intersection of Paseo de la Hacienda de Echegaray and Hacienda de Vista Hermosa around 7:00 pm on Tuesday, while the car was sitting at a traffic light.

Upon seeing the tree fall, several nearby motorists got out of their vehicles to try and help those inside the car, however, their efforts were in vain.

Witnesses of the accident requested urgent medical support that arrived moments later to help the victims, however there were no signs of life inside the car.

The tree was more than 20 meters in height and weighed several tons. Rescue teams arrived to begin the task of cutting and removing the giant tree from on top of the car. Foresnic officials also arrived to remove the bodies.

While other vehicles traveling on the same road sustained damage from the falling tree, no one else was injured.

Neighbors in the surrounding area reported that they had already alerted authorities that due to the size and weight of the tree, it had begun to tilt.
