Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Approximately 2,000 tourists remain in Cancun and Riviera Maya due to the closure of the Dallas, Texas airport.
With Dallas being a main hub for flights in and out of Cancun, approximately 2,000 people remain in the area due to canceled flights.
Andrea Lotito, vice president of the Hotel Association of the Riviera Maya says, “Dallas is a major hub for many flights to and from Cancun. But many flights were diverted which is when we saw many last-minute reservations from Texas residents who preferred to stay in the Mexican Caribbean while Harvey affected them.”
Andrea Lotito also noted that Americans tend to vacation in Riviera Maya all times of the year, so having Americans here during these months is not uncommon.
As of yesterday, Tropical Depression Harvey was in the states of Mississippi and Arkansas.
