Cancun, Q.R. — A man who hit and killed a boy last week with his car has also died.
The accident happened September 29 when the driver of a vehicle hit a 10-year-old boy on Nichupte Avenue. The boy was rushed to hospital where he died a few hours later from his injuries.
According to the State Attorney General’s Office, the man, who was also taken to hospital, was set to be charged with manslaughter but died early Thursday morning, nearly a week after the accident. The driver of the car died at IMSS of severe brain injuries.
Francisco G.B., the 38-year-old man driving the vehicle, was under the influence of alcohol when the accident occurred. Police say he was speeding while trying to take a shortcut from 135th Street via Nichupte Avenue when he hit the child.
After running into the boy, he then crashed his vehicle into the base of a light post on Nichupte Avenue trapping him inside and requiring the jaws of life to free him from the wreckage.
