Man killed in Cancun waiting for wife at salon

Cancun, Q.R. — A man was shot and killed on a busy Cancun street Tuesday as he waited for his wife.

The driver of a truck was shot and killed Tuesday in Cancun when armed men tried to steal his vehicle. The man was standing toward the front of his running truck while he waited for his wife who was getting her hair cut.

The man saw the armed men approaching and got back into his truck to avoid it being stolen, however, one of the armed men shot him and fled in another vehicle they had stolen moments before from a woman.

The deceased has been identified as a 57-year-old man originally from Acapulco, Guerrero. Witnesses say he left his parked truck running while he waited outside a salon for his wife. When he saw the armed men, he crawled into the passenger seat of his truck to prevent it from being stolen, however, one of the armed men got inside the driver’s seat and during a struggle, shot him.

The incident occurred around 5:50 p.m. in Region 97 of Cancun, where only moments before, the same armed men successfully stole a car from a woman. After the shooing, the armed men left the truck with the injured driver inside and fled in the stolen car.

The driver of the truck died on scene from a gunshot wound to the head.

The shooting was witnessed by business merchants, passersby and other drivers. The scene was cordoned off by municipal police while elements of the Ministerial Police initiated investigations.
