Cozumel, Q.R. — A man who was seen in trouble in waters off the island of Cozumel was helped by those nearby, but to no avail.
A 40-year-old man died from drowning on Cozumel Sunday morning after swimming in an area without lifeguards. The man was swimming at a popular beach area frequented by locales called Caletita. Reports say when other beachgoers saw him, they tried to help but it was too late.
He was dragged to shore but was already deceased. Authorities arrived to investigate and remove the body.
The man has been identified as 40-year-old Armando B.M., a local cook on the island. He was at the beach for a day out with his family.
