Man drowns at Playa Delfines, body found at Club Med

Cancun, Q.R. — A body has been found on a Cancun beach, that investigators say was likely due to a drowning.

The body of a man was discovered Monday morning on the beach area outside Club Med at Kilometer 21.5 of the Cancun Hotel Zone. Federal police cordoned off the area while they interviewed those who said they knew the man.

According to reports, the 38-year-old construction worker went missing Sunday night. Friends said they returned to the area of Playa Delfines at Kilometer 19 where they last saw him. Lifeguards were notified of his disappearance, but were not successful in locating the man. An official missing person’s report was filed.

Preliminary reports say the man was dragged out into the sea and drowned. Over night, his body was carried by currents to the Club Med beach area, which is where he was found early the next morning, partially buried in the sand.

The State Prosecutor’s Office carried out the corresponding investigations while the Forensic Medical Service transferred the body it to their facilities to determine an official cause of death.
